Gordon Thomas Honeywell Government Relations (GTH-GOV) is dedicated to improving the legislative process through enhanced civic education.

The best policymaking occurs when constituents, stakeholders, and clients are educated and engaged in the legislative process. Technology has made so many components of the legislative process easily accessible – TVW provides gavel-to-gavel coverage of legislative activities and websites like leg.wa.gov and fiscal.wa.gov provide access to nitty gritty legislative documents and budget data. While this access is vital and necessary, how to read the proposed bills and budgets remains elusive.

GTH-GOV has developed two different curricula to enhance the learning and education process associated with the State Legislature. The first are learning modules – a series of courses targeted toward the average constituent and toward individuals with government relations or legislative affairs as a component of their job who desire increased training. These modules provide an overview of the legislative process, how to read budgets, how to review proposed legislation, and all the basics one would need to follow along with the Washington State Legislature.

The second curriculum is dedicated to attorneys who have used their legal education in the legislative or executive branch of government, rather than the judicial branch of government. These modules – approved by the Washington State Bar Association as official Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits – provide updates on changes in the legal landscape as it pertains to policy making. These CLEs are designed to be relevant to those attorneys who spend more time at the Washington State Capitol than in the court room.
